Quality Assurance Policy

(approved by the ECE School Assembly at its 1st/08.09.2023 meeting)

The studies at the Research Master's program of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete aim at education and high-level technical training in cutting-edge topics in the fields of Informatics, Electronics, Telecommunications, Systems, and Energy. Its purpose is for students to acquire the necessary theoretical background in the fundamental principles of new technologies in all above areas, but also to develop applied thinking, so that they can solve complex scientific and technological problems and be able to compete at an international level.

The staff teaching at the ECE Research Master's Program is highly qualified and all professors bring experiences from well-known Universities and/or Research Centers abroad, in which they have either studied and/or worked or with which they have ongoing research collaborations.

The infrastructure of the School of ECE utilized in the program includes 11 officially-established Laboratories, in which postgraduate education is conducted, as well as internationally competitive research, supported by competitive research programs.

Research is an extremely important pillar of the ECE Research Master's Program, because it allows monitoring of and active participation in scientific developments at an international level, which brings forth many benefits in the overall contribution and recognition of the program and the School in general.

The quality assurance policy of the ECE Research Master's Program includes the following actions and procedures to ensure:

  1. Structure and organization of the program, with a focus on student-centered education.
  2. Assurance of very high academic/research qualifications of the teaching staff, through open recruitment procedures and merit-based recruitment, evaluation and further skill development procedures.
  3. Interconnection of teaching, research, and innovation.
  4. Assurance of adequate quality in infrastructure and support services to support learning and academic and research activities.
  5. Continuous evaluation and improvement of the quality and effectiveness of the program.

For the implementation of the above quality assurance policy of the ECE Research Master's Program, the School of ECE implements periodic internal evaluation, as well as quality assurance procedures on an annual basis, in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Unit (QAU) of the Technical University of Crete, as described in the "Quality Manual of the Internal Quality Assurance System" of the Technical University of Crete [available in Greek at https://www.modip.tuc.gr/en/quality-assurance/internal-quality-assurance-system].

The School's research activity has brought important international distinctions, such as multiple best paper awards, with the participation of postgraduate students of the ECE Research Master's Program.

The graduates of the ECE Research Master's Program have succeeded in all areas of their professional careers. In particular, graduates of the program are currently faculty members at Universities of North America, Europe, and Greece, researchers in International and National Research Institutions, and renowned professionals in large companies (in Greece and abroad) or have founded their own companies.
