On May 16, the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) of the Technical University of Crete organized an educational visit of 50 students from the School ECE to the first Net Zero Energy military Airport. The visit took place within the framework of the course “Design of Electrical Installations,” under the supervision of Assistant Professor Georgios Peppas and the School’s Dean Professor George Karystinos. The tour was hosted by officials of GEK TERNA and the 115 Combat Wing, whom we warmly thank.
The students had the opportunity to see a 1.7MW PV park in operation, lithium-ion battery energy storage system (BESS), electronic power converters, 0.6/20kV transformers, electrical interconnection and electrical protection panels, and the installed lightning protection system. Finally, the Energy management System of the produced and consumed energy was presented.
