Title
Smartphones enable Smart Cities
Abstract
The expanding capabilities and growing number of smartphone devices are producing a new computing infrastructure integrating smartphones, users and sensors. User expect their phones to locate their social network friends; turn on the lights of the living room; report the temperature in their car; provide instant access to video and music and communicate with all the other wireless enable devices in the area – all in addition to placing phone calls and sending text messages. I will give an overview of the research activities at GryPHone Lab, the open-access smartphone testbed at the University of Guelph. GryPHoneLab is designed to enable mobile systems research that cannot be done in any other way.
